Bay Tree Bookstore: source for
textbooks, course readers, and class material

General Information

The bookstore is temporarily closed to walk-in shopping during the shelter in place order for Santa Cruz County. Online orders can be picked up at the will-call window. The Express Store (convenience store) will remain open but will follow stringent physical distancing guidelines and will limit the number of individuals allowed inside the store at any time.

Free UPS Ground Shipping for All Online Orders

In an effort to support the student community as the campus makes the temporary transition to extend options for remote instruction in response to COVID-19, the Bay Tree Bookstore will be offering free UPS ground shipping on any order, no code required. This includes all online orders for textbooks, supplies, computers, and technology products.

The Bookstore has also increased the variety of general office supplies, testing supplies, art supplies, and notebooks that are available to order online.

The Bay Tree Bookstore offers competitive education pricing on Apple & Dell computers to help you work as efficiently as possible.

Textbooks, Course Readers, and E-Books

Students may place orders for textbooks online here and can "will-call" their orders in the bookstore at their convenience. In-store pick-ups will also include a free reusable Bay Tree Bookstore shopping bag.

Course readers are available for order online, as either the standard printed readers or as downloadable digital readers. Printed readers can be picked up on the same “will-call” basis as regular textbooks, or they can be shipped for free via UPS ground (see above).

Please note that the Bay Tree Bookstore offers many digital textbook titles online, and students can view the available digital options alongside traditional textbooks in the online store.

Science & Engineering Library Reservable Study Space

Beginning on February 16, 2021 the University Library will offer currently registered students who live on or off campus reservable individual quiet study spaces with access to power/WiFi in the Science & Engineering Library. The S&E Library study space will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Students may reserve the individual spaces for up to 4-hours by using the library resource reservation system at:

Students who use the Science & Engineering Library study space must be registered with the Student Health Center for COVID-19 symptom screenings/testing and present a GREEN Health e-Messenger Badge before entering. Once inside students are required to wear masks at all times, observe physical distancing and wipe down study space surfaces with provided disinfectant supplies before/after use. The S&E Library study spaces do not include access to library collections or other physical resources, public computing/printing, classrooms, offices or group study rooms. Students on campus who need to print or copy can do so through the UCSC Copy Center, located in Baskin Engineering, room B25 (in the basement just off the loading dock).

They are open M-F, 8am-4:30pm, charge 6¢ per printed/copied side in black and white or 39¢ per printed/copied side (check pricing) in color, and automatically bill through the student’s SBS account.

They are open to walk-in customers BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, in order to ensure staff and customers follow required social distancing guidelines. Students need to contact Cary at 831-459-3381 to arrange an appointment to drop off or pick up their order.

Students MUST make an appointment to bring their copy jobs to the Copy Center.

The Copy Center will notify students when their order is ready and schedule an appointment for pickup.

Students can also print in campus computer labs and at both libraries, when they are open. They are also charged, at 12¢ (black and white) or 35¢ (color) per electronic page, and they also automatically bill through the student’s SBS account.

Visit the Bay Tree's information page to learn what you need to know to sell your old textbooks. Just search the books you have and you'll receive a prepaid postage label to ship them to Bay Tree's used book partners. That's it! You'll be paid for what you ship back once it's processed.

Remote access to the university library

Access library resources online

Currently-enrolled students can access all electronic Library resources remotely including full-text articles, eBooks, and multimedia.

Your CruzID Gold login will provide access to the online collections available through the Library website.

Use the yellow Search box on the homepage or any of the Library’s subscription databases to find ebooks, articles, newspapers, music, primary sources, and more.

Use Campus VPN to authenticate as a UCSC affiliate

For the most seamless access, download, install, and log into the Campus VPN as well. This will ensure you are authenticated as a UCSC user even when accessing Library-owned materials you discover through Google or other search engines.

Return or Renew Books

Renew your books to extend the due date:

  • Log into your Library account to renew materials online.

  • Email if you need assistance renewing books in your possession.

Free online educational courseware

Students who are in need of Cengage / Web Assign Subscriptions. Cengage is offering free access to all its digital platforms and 14,000 ebooks through Cengage Unlimited to all students impacted by COVID-19 for the remainder of the academic school year! For more information please refer to the Cengage website!

MacMillian Education Learning is also providing digital tools like their LaunchPad, Sapling Learning, iClicker, and FlipIt services for free!

WileyPLUS and Knewton Alta are also providing free subscriptions for the rest of the quarter.

TopHat is also completely free of charge for the remainder of the quarter.
